‘He’s unguardable’ – Anthony Edwards says NBA MVP is overlooked star from Canada better than Nikola Jokic

Anthony Edwards had several big things to say, once again.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star doesn't think that this season's NBA MVP should go to Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic, who is one of the best basketball players in the world.

And Edwards already knows who deserves the 2024-25 season MVP, despite a new year just beginning and the NBA regular season having months to go before it is complete.

"To me, he's unguardable," Edwards told ESPN.

"As far as any one-on-one matchup, yeah, you can go on and give it up. Just give him two points most of the time."

'He' is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

After already being part of one of the most lopsided trades in NBA history, SGA is building off a huge 2023-24 by being even more unstoppable this season.

"I feel like I'm flowing, like the game's just coming," he said.

"I'm not pressing, not thinking, just out there hooping."

With all of his hard work paying off, the Oklahoma City star is overcoming his small-market stature and converting nightly believers.

"The MVP of the NBA," Edwards said.

The Thunder went 57-25 last season to top the Western Conference.

This year, OKC is 27-5 and again the best in the West.

Everything runs through SGA, who's evolved from the No. 11 overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft into the Thunder's best player since Russell Westbrook was at his peak.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, the 6ft 6in and 200lb guard is averaging 31.3 points this season with 6 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 52.8 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent on 3s.

SGA finished fifth in MVP voting two seasons ago and second to Jokic last year.

Edwards already believes that the 26-year-old star has locked down the NBA's biggest award for 2024-25.

"I don't know if they could give it to (Jokic) again," Edwards said.

"Yeah, I would say Shai. Yeah, he's looking like the MVP, man. He was incredible once again tonight.

"He's consistent every night. His team gonna give him the ball and just let him rock out every night.

"I love watching that. It's incredible, man. If he is keeping him like that, I hope they give (MVP) to him this year for sure.

"I feel like he should have won it last year, but he's playing out his mind right now."

Edwards had an up-close look at SGA on Tuesday.

The Thunder beat the Wolves 113-105, while Gilgeous-Alexander won the head-to-head scoring battle by 20 points.
