A matter of seconds before landing the finishing blow, Pereira absorbed a kick flush to the groin.

As he did, referee Herb Dean tried to step in and give Pereira time to recover but 'Poatana', not one to ever kick up a fuss, waved off Dean and went straight after the challenger.

The first shot he landed, a perfectly timed lead hook, dropped Hill as Pereira closed the show with some brutal ground and pound.

In the immediate aftermath, the champion called for a fight at heavyweight on the Rio card next month.

"I want to keep defending this belt but I spoke a lot about fighting in Brazil if I won this fight.

"I won this fight, I'm not hurt, nothing happened. I know there needs to be a lot of promotion behind a fight but I want to fight at heavyweight."

Pereira is already a two-weight world champion having previously held the middleweight title as well.

A world title at heavyweight would put him in a league of his own as the only UFC fighter to ever win world titles in three different weight classes.

But Pereira refuses to get carried away with his achievements.

The 205lb king humbly admitted: "To be honest, when I step into the Octagon I don't see myself as a champion.

"I do the same thing in my personal life. I don't let this belt get to my head.

"I have to come in here and I have to win this belt every time to be the champion.

"I don't let it get to my head ever."
